So it's not quite the season of giving yet, but I'm already thinking we need to connect with each other more than ever this year. Whether you need a few ideas for the country lover in your life or are busy trying to beautify your muddy country life, I put together a few things today.
Books with Substance // Some of the best life advice I've ever found, I've found in a good book. This sweet children's book is no different. Not an over embellished book, it's the perfect short feel good read for fall.
Lazy Susan // Lately I've been putting all our late fall blooms to work and arranging like mad. The best way to get a nice even look around the arrangement is to spin it with a lazy susan. Plus the professionals use this method so I'm sold.
Greenery Wreath // While we don't grow olives at our farm, we do grow a large array of other floral greens and bushes that can be used for an all green wreath. Boxwood, evergreen branches, dried grape leaves, camellia. There's something so simple and pretty about a plain wreath during this season.
Pottery for Arrangements // These gorgeous crocks are the updated version of old european crocks used to hold olives, butter, pickled vegetables in a time of little refrigeration. Now they're one of my favorite heavy duty vase options. As they have a heavy base, they won't tip over with the weight of heavier blooms. The plain white lends itself to any color arrangement.
Pruners // As summer faded into fall, lighter flowers made room for woodier branches. Not only are a good pair of pruners essential for pruning, they work better than my favorite flower snips at cutting tough branches and also when arranging.
Earthy Scents // Fall seems to be when I start to crave more organic earthy scents. Not only do I love arranging with all greens and filler and less flowers than most, but I lean more towards natural scents than sweet or fruity ones. Confession...I also use this hand cream religiously. For tired garden hands it soaks in well and also smells amazing.
Garden Gloves // Because a girl can never have too many gloves and because digging up dahlia bulbs, old rotting flower and vegetable matter and resetting soil is hard work. These gloves fit better on small hands and leather wears better in the long run than lighter summer fabric gloves.
Fancy Champagne // I'll admit, I'm not a huge champagne drinker. It must be the sugar content, as it gives me a wicked headache most of the time. But on occasion, leading up to the holiday season, and after most of the hard, muddy fall work is done, I love relaxing with a little glass and a good book.
Flower Frog // If you have no idea what this thing is, brace yourself. This is my favorite way to arrange flowers! Basically you use a bit of floral clay to adhere the flower frog to the bottom of a vase, fill with water and floral preserve and then the tongs give your stems something to hold onto. We're having fun over here using the last of the years blooms to practice different arrangements and these smart things are so much easier than chicken wire.
Well it's just a quick post today as we're in the midst of finishing up canning projects, planning out our annual apple cider pressing and starting next years garden plan.
Thanks for stopping by and hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday!
