Little known fact about me...
I grew up surrounded by horses. From the time I was a baby, packed around on my mom's back at the barn mucking out stalls, to 4-H as a teenager and growing up next door to a dressage stable, I've been truly in love. While I did finally sell my last horse quite some time ago, to make room for other things in life, adding in some equestrian decor to my home is bringing back my love of this beautiful creature.
Much of my decor is a compilation of old tack, bits, spurs, stirrups and horseshoes scattered around. I've compiled a few reasonably priced items that could add a bit of that equestrian luxury feeling to your home.
A simple search turned up multiple different price point options. Even a trip down to your local co-op and feed supply store can give you a plethora of reasonably priced decor pieces.
I added in all of these pieces except for the photo frame recently and am loving the addition that they bring to my home.
I hope you enjoy a bit of horse inspired decor this winter.
A Chic Blanket // I found this lovely blanket recently, that is reminiscent of a certain very expensive blanket found in many equestrian homes. At a fraction of the price, the blanket is soft and well made. Drape it over your couch for a touch of equestrian comfort
Candle with Chic Label // This candle by Elizabeth W is one of my favorite rich musky scents. I love the hand cream and perfume in this scent as well. But this candle is the perfect accent next to my stirrup leathers and irons
Bridle Photo Frame // A frame that showcases different parts of a bridle with a snaffle bit along the sides. Such a simple way to add some equestrian vibe to your decor
Snaffle Bit // I have several bits around my home for decor. Hand one on a key ring, or use them as a paperweight. They also look great displayed on a coffee table to add some dimension to a stack of coffee table books. You can find various kinds of bits online at varying price points. The one I linked is just one example that was reasonably priced.
Stirrup Leathers // Used to attach your stirrup irons to the saddle, stirrup leathers can also double as a decorative accent. Hang them from your coat rack in your entry or drape them for texture on an entryway table. I have my dressage pair with my irons on a book shelf for some equestrian inspiration.
Boxwood // We grow multiple varieties of boxwoods, many of which are now large enough to cut from and make wreaths or other decor from. If you don't have any boxwood growing on your property, no worries, there are plenty of places to get preserved boxwood, live boxwood branches or wreaths or faux. My personal preference is live boxwood. It ages into a pretty antiqued golden color that can keep for several years before you have to replace it. The preserved kind is usually real boxwood that has been treated to keep its color, but in my experience has a bit more of a lighter green color to it. Either way, boxwood lends a lovely equestrian vibe to any room.
French Flower Bucket // One simple way to display your boxwood is a charming french flower bucket. This one painted in creamy white would look gorgeous in an entryway. Just make sure it's waterproof before you fill it with water!
Large Horse Art // This gorgeous print from Katie Mendl of Calico Pony would leave nothing to the imagination in your equestrian decor. This striking grey stallion is beautiful against the black backdrop. Katie is located in Australia, and her work with various horses is truly stunning. Go visit her website and have a look for yourself. If you're wanting something a bit more price conscious, try perusing etsy for some inspiration.
I hope you enjoy adding in a bit of equestrian decor to your home. As we're clearing away the holiday decor, it's fun to add a bit of something in its place, rather than feel like your home is bare and sparse after the holidays.
Have a lovely weekend everyone!
